Theme leader of NUTS-Wor package 2 - Nutrient footprint methodology, Professor, D.Sc. (Agr.&For.)
Sirpa Kurppa, D.Sc.(Agr.&For.), has worked as a professor at MTT since 1993. Her current mission is to assess the sustainability factors of food security and to develop the awareness at the interface between production and consumption. Environmental impact assessments of various diets, eco-marketing, and the development of food education can be mentioned as implementation examples. She has worked as a visitor researcher in Scotland, California, Canada, and most recently in New-Zealand, as well as assisted in agriculture food chain related development projects oriented towards China and Egypt. She has amongst other things participated in unraveling anticipation procedures for agricultural regions in the EU, preparing national food security related parliament´s future committee´s anticipatory bio-economy report, preparing the national food strategy proposal as a member of the board, and updating the Finnish strategy on Sustainable production and consumption.
